Mortgage Loan Originator

Location: Bardstown, KY | Type: Full-Time Position Summary

The Mortgage Loan Originator assists customers with mortgage, consumer, and small commercial loan solutions that meet their financial needs. This role is responsible for originating, evaluating, and closing in-house and secondary-market loans while ensuring compliance with bank policy and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is customer focused, detail-oriented, and motivated to meet lending production goals.

Key Responsibilities

Advise customers on available loan products, terms, and pricing; recommend appropriate solutions 

Interview applicants, gather required information, and guide customers through the loan process

Analyze financial statements, credit, and collateral to determine loan feasibility 

Prepare, review, and submit complete loan packages in accordance with policy and regulations

Approve loans within delegated authority; escalate exceptions with recommendations 

Coordinate appraisals, title work, insurance, payoffs, and resolve title exceptions

Review loan documents, close and fund loans, and explain documentation to customers 

Originate loans to meet established production goals

For secondary-market loans: prepare disclosures, applications, preliminary underwriting, submit through required systems, and attend purchase closings as needed 

Maintain communication with customers, realtors, and referral partners

Develop and maintain referral relationships to generate new and repeat business 

Stay current on loan products, regulations, and industry developments

Qualifications

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with loan origination systems (Calyx, LaserPro preferred) 

Strong knowledge of lending regulations, bank operations, and financial institution products

Working knowledge of FHA, USDA/RHS, VA, and Conventional secondary-market guidelines 

Ability to analyze financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports

Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills 

Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of lending experience; mortgage lending experience preferred.
  • Work Requirements
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to travel locally and work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends. Additional Requirements Compliance with Bank Secrecy Act and all applicable laws and regulations.
